Sir Gecko
When I was really hot and heavy into keeping herps I was keeping mostly hots, so I didn’t spend a lot of time with the lighter side of things. Now that I’ve survived that phase I find myself taking time to enjoy some of the calmer things in life. So, although I’ve seen hundreds of these guys at the shows over the years, I never really stopped to admire them.
Well that has changed, and after adopting one several weeks ago I am happy to say that they are a delight to own. So without further ado, I introduce to you Mr. Gordon “The Leopard” Gecko (Eublepharis macularius):
I know, I know… some of you may be saying “Man, you’ve watched Wall Street too many times” and you may be right, especially since I just watched the second one and enjoyed it. But hey, until another, better name comes along this one will do.
And I gotta tell ya, Mr. Gecko is an eating machine. Since I picked him up from the local pet shop he has been an eating machine and I am glad to see that his tail is starting to fatten up a bit. I belive that means we are on the right track. Certainly any faults in his care are mine, but thanks to the amazingly helpful folks on GeckoForums.net those faults are kept to a minimum.
Welcome Mr and Mrs Hisser
When I decided a couple years ago that it was time to overcome my arachnophobia, I bought the biggest, hairiest tarantula I could find. After keeping her, and many of her relatives for the past several years, I believe I am now well over that hump (unless they surprise me).
So now it is time to get over my fear of roaches. These things are great feeders for not only the abovementioned Tarantuals, but also for the various lizards around the Petroom(s). To that end, I placed an ad on Craigslist and was soon rewarded with a response from a local breeder. I am now pleased to introduce the loving couple (G. portentosa):
And just to prove I have begun my therapy:
N.B. Sorry for the blurry pic, hard to hold the camera and Mr. Hisser
Childhood Memories: Part 2 – Casper the Friendly Ghost
Okay, since the other was looking a bit lonely (even though I have yet to receive it from J&S) I added this one to the order… combined shipping ya know.
Casper the Friendly Ghost #58, a file copy from Harvey Comics circa 1963.
